Fernando Alonso was left rueing a mistake in the hairpin of his final flying lap at Montreal today which cost him pole position. Until that point, the Spaniard had gone faster than team mate Hamilton in the first two sectors.
"In turn ten I was running a bit off line and got some marbles off line and lost three tenths there and so there was no point risking anything in the last chicane, I just decided bring the car home safely," Alonso said.
"Front row is still good and we have a good chance to win the race from there," he added. "We've been developing the car and Monte Carlo we knew was a special race and it seems we can keep the momentum here and hopefully in Indy too. We're a much stronger team and it seems we can fight on any circuit."
