Hamilton fastest in final free practice

Lewis Hamilton was the fastest man on track this morning in Montreal. The Briton was slightly faster than Ferrari driver Kimi Raikkonen. For most of the session though McLaren's Fernando Alonso was fastest.

After storms and rain on Friday evening the track was completely dry again under sunny conditions on Saturday morning. Free practice got underway at 10.00am and most of the drivers focussed on their qualifying set-up.

Many drivers went missed 'Turn 2' as they went straight through the grass. The session was red flagged for ten minutes when Heikki Kovalainen blew up his Renault engine at the end of the straight, right before the final chicane. The Finn went straight into the pitlane leaving a long oil mark behind him. Fernando Alonso nearly hit the wall as he had difficulties to brake into the final chicane with the oil on track.

After ten minutes the session continued for the final 12 minutes of free practice on Saturday morning. The McLaren duo was fastest for most of the session. It was Kimi Raikkonen who set the second fastest lap time in the final minutes of free practice.
