Stewart impressed by Hamilton's pole

10 June 2007

Triple F1 world champions Sir Jackie Stewart is impressed after seeing Lewis Hamilton taking pole in Montreal on Saturday. The Scotsman, who quit Formula 1 in 1973, said the young Briton is working very mature and sees a bright future for McLaren's rookie.

"I think it's a great achievement for a young man to be in pole position in his sixth grand prix on a racetrack he's never been to before," Stewart told GPUpdate.net. "But I think, considering his five podiums in five races it's not a big surpris. It was just a matter of time, in the same way a win is jus a matter of time.

"I think he did it very well, because he actually made a mistake, but picked himself up and placed himself on pole position. It shows he's got a good mind management, shows he has his head together, so good boy!"
