Vettel in limbo

19 June 2007

Sebastian Vettel has revealed that it will be difficult going back to being a test driver for the BMW Sauber team after his impressive debut last weekend at the American Grand Prix. The 19-year-old faces another anxious wait before finding out if he will race again at the next grand prix at Magny-Cours after BMW motorsport director Mario Theissen said that Robert Kubica will definitely return as soon as he is declared fit.

Vettel told German magazine auto motor und sport: "That will be as tough as before. Watching is not nice. I think there are a few other test-drivers who could back me up on that."

If Kubica is cleared for the French Grand Prix on 1 July then Vettel's next race will be a more sobering experience in the World Series by Renault in mid-July. However, Vettel remains upbeat about the experience - taking on board from it what he has learnt - whilst looking forward to his next opportunity.

He added: "I learnt a lot. It was a good race until the first corner (where he had to go off to avoid a collision). It was a fantastic chance for me. I had a lot of fun. And that was the most important thing for me. Now I must wait - there is still a lot of the year left."
