Lewis Hamilton's success in F1 could help save the future of the British Grand Prix at Silverstone, the British Racing Drivers' Club (BRDC) is hoping. The BRDC, which owns the Silverstone circuit, could lose the right to host a Grand Prix after its current contract runs out in 2009, unless the circuit is modernised.
"Members like Lewis are only helping us," BRDC chairman Robert Brooks told the BBC. "The Hamilton factor is very positive and helpful in keeping the British Grand Prix. "
On the modernising plans for the Silverstone circuit, Brooks added, "We're in the advanced stages of applying for planning permission then we'll look to agree a new contract. We will do all we can to retain the British Grand Prix."
