BMW motorsport chief Mario Theissen has been quick to heap praise on third driver Sebastian Vettel after the 19-year-old rookie stepped in for Robert Kubica at the last moment for the US Grand Prix and scored a point on his F1 debut.
"Sebastian enjoyed a successful debut," said Theissen. "There was certainly no sign that it was his very first F1 race. He dealt with everything skilfully, cautiously and with sound judgement. He had a tough lesson to learn at the start, but afterwards he didn't put a wheel wrong."
"He's one of a new school of drivers," Theissen added. "The young guys that are coming into Formula One now are very well prepared. Despite their young age, they already have a lot of racing experience. Sebastian won 18 out of 20 races in Formula BMW Germany in 2004. He remains to this day the most successful driver anywhere in the world ever to race in our young talent series."
