F1 boss Bernie Ecclestone has moved to dismiss rumours that Lewis Hamilton could lose world championship points if the current investigation into inter-team espionage finds the worst.
"I don't see that," Ecclestone told The Times when asked whether Hamilton's points could be affected.
The spy drama has come about after Ferrari - on the comeback trail on track - filed a complaint that Nigel Stepney allegedly supplied sensitive technical information to McLaren chief designer Mike Couglan - who has now been suspended by the Mercedes-powered team pending an investigation.
"It will be dealt with in the correct manner," Ecclestone added. "What is important is that there are no mistakes made. If somebody is saying, 'You did something wrong', we need to make sure we know what we are talking about. We don't want to go in there firing a gun with no bullets in the chamber."
McLaren meanwhile moved to distance itself from the drama that threatens to destabilise the team's lead in both championships.
