McLaren boss blames tyre choice

McLaren team boss Ron Dennis blamed a wrong decision on which tyre was better to race on, for Lewis Hamilton's inability to fight for a win at the British Grand Prix, and the fact that Raikkonen ended up ahead of Alonso.

"We knew early on that third was the best we could do with Lewis, and then we just saved the engine," Dennis said. "With Fernando we turned the engine down after the final stop when it was clear Kimi was well ahead."

"Probably the option tyre was the better one to race on, which isn't how it looked on Saturday, so all in all we probably had the wrong choice on tyre, but we had good pace most of the race and we're going away with some very valuable points."
