Theissen pleased to witness BMW's progress
09 July 2007The BMW team has made massive progress this season. Last year the team finished in fifth position in the constructors' championship standings, but this season the Hinwill based team is steady in third position and claimed its first podium position last month in Canada. BMW Motorsport director Mario Theissen is obviously pleased with the team's season so far.
Speaking about the season so far Dr. Mario Theissen said: "We have every reason to be satisfied with what we have achieved up until now. Our goal was to finish on the podium of our own accord in 2007. Nick has already managed to do that in Montreal, when with his second place he also recorded the best individual result in team's history. I am confident that this will not remain the only podium finish of the year. Additionally, we have claimed fourth place for the sixth time in the ninth race of the season.

"We have been able to establish ourselves as the third strongest team after McLaren-Mercedes and Ferrari. Following our fifth place in the constructors' championship in our debut season, this means an improvement of two positions, a development which would have been difficult to predict. After all, the gap to Renault, the world champions in 2005 and 2006, is already 25 points. Naturally, we are determined to hold on to this third place until the end of the season. We have already been able to collect 56 world championship points in total, having collecting 36 in the whole of last season. Additionally, we have recorded points in every single race of the year and our drivers have reached top ten positions in qualifying for every race so far."
And thus it all looks very positive for BMW. Even better than they expected. "All of this is even more satisfying when you consider that we haven't even concluded our two-year development phase yet," Theissen continued saying. "The extension of our facility in Hinwil will not be finished until the end of the year. Then, the last free positions will be taken and we will be able to utilise our full potential. First of all however, we are looking forward to the second half of the season. The employees at the track, as well as at Munich and Hinwil, are highly motivated. They can feel that we are moving forward and they are right. I am convinced that we are heading in the right direction."
