A three day crowd of 207,000 fans enjoyed this year's British Grand Prix, including a capacity crowd of 85,000 on the Sunday, and record breaking attendances on both the Friday (42,000) and Saturday (80,000).
As a result of that, and continued pressure from Bernie Ecclestone Silverstone's boss Richard Phillips promised to push ahead with plans to modernise the circuit and keep it on the calendar beyond 2009.
"It has been an amazing event. I have never experienced anything like this at Silverstone before and I am sure there is more to come in future years," Phillips said. "The BRDC has a Master Plan for the redevelopment of the site, and we'll hopefully be able to start work on that in the not too distant future. We want to give you (the fans) a circuit that will compete with other F1 circuits around the world."
"If we can combine one of the best circuit's in the world with the best fans in the world, we'll have a pretty spectacular combination," he added.
