Karthikeyan interested in Spyker seat
11 July 2007Narain Karthikeyan has confirmed that he has been in contact with the Spyker F1 team over possibly filling the vacant seat left by Christijan Albers. The current Williams test driver also said that he would be keen to make a return to racing after his one season behind the wheel in 2005, which was also with current Spyker F1 team principal Colin Kolles at Jordan.
"Colin had a chat with me at Silverstone," the 30-year-old Indian driver told Reuters. "I'll be delighted to get back to racing, but I'm definitely enjoying my time at Williams."
Towards the end of the 2005 season, Karthikeyan announced that he would not be carrying on with the Midland-turning Jordan team for the following season because he was unable to raise the necessary funds. Now the part-time A1GP driver is favourite alongside Honda test-driver Christian Klien to land the seat.
His manager Mark Perkins said: "Spyker hope Narain can do a better job than Albers is doing at the moment. We will know by the end of the week. One would hope the performance of the team (Spyker) would improve through the year."
Kolles confirmed that he would also be keen on the Williams test driver: "Obviously, Narain is one of the options... I think it's a good option and we are just in the process of evaluating this," he added. "Williams is informed about this possibility, yes."
