Van der Garde: I won't replace Albers
11 July 2007On Tuesday the Spyker Formula 1 team announced that Christijan Albers won't finish the season with the team. Among the names who were mentioned as a possible replacement is Spyker's Dutch test driver Giedo van der Garde, but the young Dutchman has said that even though he would love to race in Formula 1 this is not the time for him yet.
"First of all it is very sad what happened with Chris," Van der Garde told GPUpdate.net. "He had a difficult start of the season, quit his management and all of a sudden there is a problem with one of his sponsors. It can't get any worse for a driver. I guess that's life, but it doesn't make it a lot of fun obviously."
When asked if Van der Garde could be Christijan's replacement he was pretty clear: "No, I won't replace him. I just want to finish my World Series by Renault season first, cover more miles in a Formula 1 car and see what will happen next season. And apart from that there is still an issue with the Super Aguri team, so I can't race yet. We first need to settle that case with them before I could race."
At the moment it is still unclear who will replace Christijan Albers at the upcoming German Grand Prix. A few names that are being mentioned in the paddock are Christian Klien, Narain Karthikeyan and even GP2 driver Roldan Rodriguez.
