Ralf expects points finish at the 'Ring'

16 July 2007

Ralf Schumacher is looking for a positive result at his and Toyota's home Grand Prix at Nurburgring next weekend after his recent upturn in performance.

The German says that he hopes to make the team's progress count on the track but the notable improvement has come from Schumacher himself, who, after a disappointing first half of the season, seems to have found some form at last as demonstrated at the British Grand Prix.

Schumacher said: "The Nürburgring is not only the home track for the team but also for me because I was born and grew up quite close by. I have always really enjoyed racing there because I get a lot of support from my home fans and I also have good memories of winning my first Formula Junior race there, and of course winning the European Grand Prix in 2003, which was a very special moment."

At Silverstone, the 32-year-old out-paced his normally faster team-mate Jarno Trulli all weekend but after qualifying sixth was unlucky to retire with a technical problem in the race.

The ex-Williams driver commented: "I hope to have another good result to celebrate this weekend and I am confident we are making progress, even though the result at Silverstone was disappointing. On the positive side, you could see from my sixth place in qualifying and my lap times during the race that our car has improved and we are able to compete higher up the grid.

The team is pushing hard to continue this improvement and it would be great to see the results of that work with a points finish at one of our home tracks this weekend."

Schumacher has so far scored only two points of Toyota's nine.
