Scuderia Toro Rosso driver Vitantonio Liuzzi is not happy with the many mechanical failures he has experienced so far this season. The Italian admitted the team has a lot of work to do if it expects to be getting good results before the end of the season.
"We're already past the middle of the season and we have to hurry up and understand what's going on," Liuzzi told Speed TV. "The championship seems long, but it's short in the end, especially when you are this condition that you never end a race.
The Faenza-based team has suffered the most retirements this season with 13, although it is fair to say that six of them have resulted from driver error or collision with another competitor. Team principal Franz Tost recently stated that his drivers "need to improve" after making several mistakes but Liuzzi insists that the car is the main problem.
The Italian continued: "We are collecting gearbox failures, and that's not what we should be doing. The new seamless shift failed in Scott's car at Magny-Cours, and again in mine at Silverstone. We've got a lot of work ahead. We're trying to improve the speed, that's for sure, but even with the standard gearbox we had problems. It's not a matter of this gearbox being faster, it's just a matter of us being unreliable."
