Lewis Hamilton has revealed that he is feeling fine and hopes to race in tomorrow's Grand Prix at the Nurburgring. The 22-year-old was lucky to escape injury after his 150 mph crash during qualifying at the German circuit. The first signs from him since the crash indicate that he is feeling confident of being allowed to race tomorrow.
The McLaren driver said: "I'm absolutely fine and we will see later if I am able to race tomorrow. Everybody has been looking after me really well. We know what caused the accident and I'm just pleased that everything is OK and I really hope I can race tomorrow."
Hamilton was stretchered away from the scene of the crash after his front right tyre exploded on the approach to the flat out Schumacher-S. Later investigation revealed that it was in fact the wheelgun, which tightens the wheels to the car, which was faulty and had not secured the wheel tightly enough. If Hamilton is ok to race tomorrow, he will be defending his 12 point lead in the championship from tenth on the grid.
