Alonso 'apologises' to Massa
22 July 2007 / Results / PhotosFernando Alonso apologised to Felipe Massa for some risky overtaking attempts in the closing laps to steal the win off the Ferrari driver. Although the two touched as the McLaren muscled his way past on the inside, the manoeuvre was indeed a clean racing move and the double-world champion is just delighted to have come out on top in such an exciting and chaotic race.
Alonso said: "At the start the conditions were difficult; the first three laps were unbelievable. The safety car came in and we stopped the race as it was impossible to race. In dry conditions the Ferraris were a bit quicker than us. The rain in the end helped us a lot - our car in the end seemed to perform better in wet conditions. The racing was very close, the dry line, the racing line, was getting dry. We touched two times and I 'apologise' to him (Massa) because we nearly didn't finish the race. Now I try to enjoy the victory and forget everything.
"I always enjoy this type of race. When I was second I thought 'maybe it's not the right time for rain' because I was safe in second. But in the end I am very happy and had some fun. On the podium I was extremely happy as the race was so exciting"
