Ralf Schumacher believes that the FIA was right to not penalise Nick Heidfeld for the suspect moved he pulled which ended the Toyota driver's home Grand Prix at the Nurburgring this afternoon. Heidfeld's dive up the inside of the final corner was reviewed by the sport's governing body and the BMW Sauber risked losing his sixth placed finish if found guilty of dangerous driving.
Schumacher was clearly annoyed when he got out of the car and Heidfeld seemed to wave apologetically the next time he came round the final corner having continued without damage to his car following the collision. Schumacher has since said that it was just a racing incident.
Schumacher said: "It was disappointing. We had a good chance of scoring points today. After the disaster at the start with all the rain, we were still in a good position."
"I made a mistake around the chicane but I still thought it was clear to him that he wasn't close enough. However it was just a racing incident and I don't think he should get a penalty but we'll see what the stewards say."
Heidfeld blames the track conditions for not being able to avoid a collision
Heidfeld said: "The accident with Ralf Schumacher was very unlucky. He was slow accelerating out of the chicane, at first left room for me, but closed the door once he realised I was there. Unfortunately at this point I was on the wet part of the track and couldn't avoid a collision. "
