Yamamoto joins Spyker

25 July 2007

Sakon Yamamoto will make his return in Formula 1 next week at the Hungaroring GPUpdate.net has learned. The Japanese driver will become Spyker F1's second race driver alongside Adrian Sutil. Yamamoto was brought to the team as a replacement for Christijan Albers.

After the British Grand Prix the Spyker F1 team decided it could no longer continue with Christijan Albers. And thus, as no replacement was sorted out yet, Markus Winkelhock climbed in the car at his home Grand Prix in Germany. Winkelhock even led the race for a few laps in the Spyker F1 car. But starting at the Hungaroring Sakon Yamamoto will be back in action in Formula 1.

The 25-year-old Yamamoto began his Formula 1 career in 2006 at Super Aguri. He replaced Franck Montagy. His best result at Super Aguri was a 16th position. In 2007 Yamamoto joined the BCN Competicion team in the GP2 series.

It is expected that Sakon Yamamoto will have a seat fitting at the Spyker factory in Silverstone later this week.

The Spyker F1 team was unavailable for any comments.
