Trulli plays down talk of progress

Trulli plays down talk of progress

26 July 2007

Jarno Trulli is apprehensive about Toyota's chances of performing well at the Hungarian Grand Prix next weekend. Although the TF107 has shown signs of improvement at the last few grands prix, the 33-year-old explains that this is more down to the car suiting the track rather than the team making any real technical progress.

Trulli said: "I think that recently we have performed better because, in general, the circuits we have been at have downforce levels which are optimum for the TF107."

The Italian now believes that a return to a high-downforce track, like the Hungaroring next weekend, will pose more of a challenge to the set-up of his car. The last time the F1 circus convened on a track of this kind was at Monaco, where Trulli recorded by far his worst finish of the year to date - 15th.

"The next race is Hungary and that demands a very different set-up," Trulli conceded. "The average speed is low and we will need high downforce. That will introduce another set of factors and we will have to see how we perform."

Trulli believes that the Cologne-based outfit still has a long way to go till it can break free from the tight midfield-pack and compete with F1's best.

He added: "It's very tight at the moment but there is work to do to catch up with the top teams."
