The McLaren team today has said they will appeal against their points penalty which the British team received following the team's conduct during Saturday's qualifying for the Hungarian Grand Prix. The team lodged their official protest to the FIA via the Motor Sports Association (MSA).
All McLaren could say on the current situation was that "MSA lodged an official protest on behalf of the McLaren Formula 1 team," a spokesperson confirmed to GPUpdate.net
During Saturday's final knock-out round in the qualifying session the team decided to keep Alonso 20 seconds extra in the pitlane, while having Hamilton wait. Alonso himself decided to stay for an extra 10 seconds making it impossible for Hamilton to complete another flying lap. Alonso took pole position but in the evening he received a grid penalty and had to start Sunday's Hungarian Grand Prix from 6th position. McLaren was also punished. The race stewards decided the team would not score any points in the constructors' championship that weekend. Hamilton won the race, with team-mate Alonso in fourth. The team would have scored 15 points.
