Former F1 champion Nigel Mansell says Jenson Button's hopes of ever following in his footsteps are gone, despite the fact the Honda driver is still only 27-years-old. Mansell, who has been offering his advice and assistance to Lewis Hamilton says Button did not make the most out of a competitive car when he had one.
"Jenson should have won more races," Mansell told the BBC. "He's under-performed and that's down to him. He had the opportunity and he didn't take it; there won't be any more."
Button clinched his maiden Grand Prix victory last season at an unpredictable, rain interrupted Hungarian Grand Prix but apart from that has been unable to mount a sustained campaign for the title.
"Jenson is a great talent," Mansell added. "But he was far better years ago than he is now because he was hungry then. He's got a great reputation for partying and that's taken the edge away. He's a typical example of too much, too soon."
