Nick Heidfeld says he is not at all scared by the risks of racing in Formula One, even when he witnessed his team mate Robert Kubica suffer one of the biggest accidents of recent times, during this season's Canadian Grand Prix.
"I have been a motor racer for nearly 20 years now and it's a completely normal thing, for me," Heidfeld said. "I'm not sitting in the car and thinking: what a dangerous job!"
"Quite obviously I know that racing in Formula One can be dangerous - despite all the safety improvements made on both circuits and cars, in recent years," he added. "You just have to ask yourself if competing at the pinnacle of motor racing is worth taking these risks. And to date, my answer always was: Yes!"
