Delighted Bourdais ready for F1 challenge

16 August 2007

Sebastien Bourdais has revealed his relief on hearing that he would be racing for Toro Rosso next season. Ever since the Frenchman won the 2002 F3000 series, GP2's predecessor, he has always just fallen short of a dream race seat in F1.

Bourdais had to prove his mettle elsewhere - in the Champ Car World Series - where nothing less than titles would turn the F1 team bosses' heads. He duly delivered and three consecutive titles later, with a possible fourth on its way this season, Bourdais has turned his lifetime dream into reality.

"It was a great moment of satisfaction," Bourdais admitted to f1.com. "As you know, I had been waiting to get into F1 for a long, long time, so it was really sweet! I was also very happy for Nicolas Todt (Jean Todt's son and Bourdais' manager) who believed in me and made it happen - a big challenge.

"All I know is I did everything I could have dreamt of doing in Champ Car and we can hopefully get the fourth title. F1 was always something I wanted to give a real try, and now that I have an opportunity with Toro Rosso I will make the best of it. I am not pretending we are going to win races in 2008, though it would be awesome, but had I not tried I would have regretted it for the rest of my life."
