BMW confirm Heidfeld and Kubica for 2008

21 August 2007

The BMW Sauber F1 team today confirmed that they will continue to race in Formula 1 with its current race drivers Nick Heidfeld and Robert Kubica. The BMW Sauber duo gathered 71 points already this season.

Nick Heidfeld joined the BMW Formula 1 team in 2006 at the start of their first year in Formula 1 since it took over Peter Sauber's F1 team. The German feels at home at BMW and was more than happy to continue racing with the Hinwill based team. "For me it was always clear that I wanted to continue driving for the BMW Sauber F1 Team, and I never doubted that would be the case," said Heidfeld. "It is tremendous being able to help build up a new team and doing my bit for it. When I look at the progress we have made over the last two years, it's an incredible incentive for me. Personally I have high sporting ambitions and I am certain I can achieve them with the BMW Sauber F1 Team."

Robert Kubica joined the BMW Sauber F1 team last year as the team's test driver. But fully unexpected the Polish F1 driver took over from Jacques Villeneuve at the Hungarian Grand Prix. Kubica showed a stunning performance at Monza and finished the season with BMW. He said about the extension of his contract at BMW: "I have now been in Formula One for just over one year and have gathered a great deal of experience. Even so, I am learning new things every day and making steady progress. We now have to concentrate on achieving our ambitious common goals, and I'm confident that the team will be able to give me all the necessary tools that I need to reward them for their renewed trust."
