Giancarlo Fisichella is hopeful that Renault will repay him for his perseverance this season with a less competitive car by handing him a contract extension for next season. The Italian's current contract option comes up in September.
"In September I'll know what my future is at Renault," Fisichella told Autosport. "I believe and I hope that I'll stay with them for another year."
"They promised me a competitive car to fight for the championship this year and unfortunately it's not been like that," he added. "We've been working very hard all season. I did my best and so for that I hope to stay another year with them. I have a good feeling for that."
Renault has so far not made any comment about its 2008 driver line up, and rumours in the paddock suggest Flavio Briatore is waiting to see if there is an opportunity to re-sign Fernando Alonso if the champion's relationship at McLaren becomes even more strained.
