Raikkonen says race was decided by qualifying

Raikkonen says race was decided by qualifying

26 August 2007 / Results / Photos

Kimi Raikkonen claimed that the Turkish Grand Prix result was decided in qualifying on Saturday after he couldn't do anything to get ahead of team mate Felipe Massa.

"We had a very god car, but unfortunately these days in F1 it's pretty difficult to get past and the race was really decided yesterday," Raikkonen said after finishing second. "I just pushed to get close and try to get past in the pit stops. When two team mates are fighting whoever is there first is going to win."

Raikkonen set the fastest lap of the race on the penultimate lap of the afternoon, well after Ferrari had seemingly told both drivers to hold station after the second round of pit stops. The Finn was in contention for pole position on Saturday until he made a mistake in the final sector of his last flying lap.
