Alonso savours first pole since Monaco
08 September 2007 / Results / PhotosFernando Alonso was savouring his first pole position since the Monaco Grand Prix at Monza today in a dominant display. The reigning champion needed just one run in final qualifying to seal pole.
"I've been doing some good qualifying but always in Q3 on the very important laps at the end with new tyres I've had problems and taken many second places and finally pole positions which we deserve because we've been quick all weekend and in the test," said Alonso. "Thanks to the good job from the team the car is very quick at this track. We took our opportunity to show our pace and hopefully tomorrow we can finish the race ahead of everybody."
"The team has been focused especially in this race because Turkey was a bit of a disappointing weekend for us - even if we finished on the podium we weren't quick enough to win," he added. "We made a step forward with the car and put all our effort to come back at this race and we've done it. Hopefully slowly between here and the end of the championship the car will continue to improve and be ahead of the others."
