Alonso delighted with first 'perfect weekend' in Italy

Fernando Alonso was delighted with a 'perfect weekend' in Italy after he stormed to victory at Monza. The Spaniard led from lights to flag to cut another two points out of Hamilton's championship lead - now just three points.

"A perfect weekend for me and sometimes everything seems to go in the right direction and you feel good and need to keep the momentum," said Alonso. "The whole weekend has been good. Sometimes I've had problems in races at Italy and missed the win, so to get it today is very special. Everything was ok, the start wasn't fantastic I felt, so I looked in the mirror and saw Felipe behind me so for a moment I thought I might have to defend, so I braked really late."

It was also Alonso's first win at Monza and a stark contrast to the controversy of last year's race where he was unfairly penalised on the grid.

"It's very special to win here," added the reigning champion. "The last two or three years there were a few circuits where I've won many times, and Monza is one I never got before so I wanted to achieve that and try to get at least one win on all the circuits so to take the win at Monza here in front of all the fans who love Formula One is great."
