McLaren team boss Ron Dennis insisted the season was not over yet after Lewis Hamilton took a major step closer to winning the drivers' championship with victory at the Japanese Grand Prix.
"Discipline was the key today," Dennis said. "In the opening laps we thought about taking a chance and fuelling for the end but we just worked everything out. The engineers and strategists worked so well as a team. Lewis drove so well in really challenging conditions."
As for Fernando Alonso's struggle with a damaged car and the spin that ultimately put him out of the race, Dennis added, "Fernando did a very good job with a damaged car keeping together and I'm really disappointed he couldn't finish, honestly, but there's still a long way to go."
