Hamilton asks McLaren to give him trophies

04 October 2007

Lewis Hamilton has pleaded with McLaren bosses to let him keep his winning trophies as he stands on the brink of making history as the first driver to win the championship as a rookie and becoming the youngest ever world champion.

However, under the contract terms McLaren has with all its drivers, the team gets to keep all the drivers' trophies and they are displayed in a 30-yard-long cabinet at its Woking headquarters.

Hamilton told the Mirror newspaper, "I want to keep my first win trophy and that of my first world championship. Don't underestimate how much it means to me."
