Formula One returns to Montjuïc Barcelona

For the first time in over 30 years the legendary circuit of Montjuïc Park, Barcelona will hear the roar of Formula One engines on Saturday 13 and Sunday 14 October 2007. Martini, one of the circuit's first supporters back in 1933, will pay tribute to Montjuïc's 75th anniversary through a retro motorsport festival - "Martini Legends".

The circuit was home to the Spanish Grand Prix up until 1975 and remains largely unchanged. For "Martini Legends" the streets will be closed and the circuit restored to its former glory with pit lane, start-finish line and grandstands for fans, in a bid to recreate the heritage and atmosphere when legendary drivers Sir Jackie Stewart or Emmerson Fittipaldi were racing.

On Saturday 13 October a large collection of classic and collector's cars will be displayed on the Reina Maria Cristina Avenue with background information on the drivers and races of the day. On Sunday 14 October more than 50 cars that competed at the circuit in the past will take to the track and complete a unique "Martini Legends" parade through Montjuïc Park.

Double Formula One World Champion and Brazilian legend Emmerson Fittipaldi will drive the Lotus that took him to championship glory in 1972 and victory at Montjuïc in 1973.

As an official partner to the Scuderia Ferrari F1 team, Martini is proud to welcome the Italian F1 team to Barcelona. Ferrari's test driver and Spaniard Marc Gene will bring the celebrations right up-to-date when he demonstrates the 2006 Ferrari F248 F1 car at the historic venue. The Ferrari F1 team, 2007 FIA F1 Constructors' Champions, will bring a spectacular Grand Prix set up to Barcelona. There will be twelve F1 cars in total - including Jackie Stewart's Tyrrel 001, Sports Prototypes and GT cars that competed at the famous urban circuit.

Drivers, guests and VIPs will congregate at the famous Martini Terrazza at Montjuïc. There will also be a "Revival Area" dedicated to the golden years of the circuit - 1930s, 1940s and 1950s. Guests and fans will dress in costume from those eras and enjoy live music performances - the best-dressed couple will win a trip to Monaco.

Martini Racing's amazing legacy in motorsport stretches as far back as 1968. Since that time Martini has been associated with an illustrious list of teams, including Brabham, Alfa Romeo and Lotus in Formula One, Porsche in the World Champion Series, Le Mans, World Rallying and the German Touring Car Championship and Lancia and Ford in both the World Rally Championship and the World Championship of Endurance Racing. In Montjuïc, Martini Racing has a special role, with historic cars like the Brabham BT 44 that took the team to its first F1 victory in 1975 and the Lotus 80 which competed in F1 in1980.
