Hill supports Hamilton in title bid

05 October 2007

Former Formula 1 champion Damon Hill will be supporting his country fellow Lewis Hamilton in the rookie's fight for the title on Sunday morning. Hill believes it would be fantastic if he clinches the title at Sunday's Chinese Grand Prix already.

BRDC President Damon Hill said: "I imagine most of the UK will be up early to watch Lewis on Sunday. I'll be watching the race in the BRDC Clubhouse at Silverstone. The circuit has organised a private screening for a number of fans who have already bought their tickets for next year's British Grand Prix, so we'll all be watching it together. It's the perfect place to watch the race and hopefully we'll be celebrating a new British World Champion come nine o'clock.

"The whole country is behind Lewis and it would be fantastic if he clinches the title on Sunday. Formula 1, motorsport, the British Grand Prix - it's what we do best in Britain. We are world leaders. The next step is for us to provide the fans and Lewis with a venue they can be proud of. We are on the cusp of negotiating and securing a new deal for the British Grand Prix - we need to ensure Lewis and other British drivers have a long term platform to perform on."
