Hamilton on course with pole position
06 October 2007 / Results / PhotosMcLaren driver Lewis Hamilton will start Sunday's Chinese Grand Prix from Pole Position. It's the best thing he could do when he wants to win the 2007 Formula 1 championship on Sunday already. His closest title rival Fernando Alonso will start from fourth. Ferrari drivers Kimi Raikkonen and Felipe Massa will start from second and third.
Kimi Raikkonen has been the fastest driver in Shanghai from the start on Friday, and the Fin continued his strong form in the first qualifying knock-out session with a stunning time of 1m35.692. He was right ahead of his team-mate Felipe Massa and the McLaren drivers. In the end the most disappointing driver not making it to the next session is probably Giancarlo Fisichella. He was unable to make it to Q2.
In the second qualifying session Raikkonen was once again the man to beat. The Ferrari driver completed an even faster lap in Q2: 1m35.381, followed by Massa and the McLaren drivers once again. Both Red Bull drivers did well and made it to the final qualifying round. Toro Rosso drivers Liuzzi and Vettel also did well with an eleventh and twelfth position on tomorrow's grid.
In the final session Felipe Massa was the first driver to set the pace. Later into the session his team-mate Raikkonen was on top of the time sheets again. In the final seconds though Lewis Hamilton clinched his fifth pole position of the season.
