Haug: No talks with Vettel

Sebastian Vettel's stunning performance in Sunday's Chinese Grand Prix has lightened speculations in Germany about his future in Formula 1. He has already been linked with a seat at McLaren as a replacement for Fernando Alonso in 2008. Mercedes motorsport boss Norbert Haug though denies there are discussions between McLaren and Vettel.

"It is obvious that when a German driver is doing well in autosport that he is linked with the Silver team," Haug told German magazine Bild. "At the moment though there are no discussions with him to join our team."

Haug furthermore said about Vettel's performance; "Sebastian drove a very strong race. I'm really happy for him. I know him since he was racing in the ADAC-junior series and Formula 3 when he was racing with Mercedes engines. He even raced with Lewis Hamilton."

Scuderia Toro Rosso signed up the young German as the team's race driver for the 2008 F1 season.
