FIA appoints special scrutineer to keep eye on Alonso's car

11 October 2007

The FIA will appoint a special scrutineer at next week's Brazilian Grand Prix to keep an extra eye on Fernando Alonso's car to make sure the Spaniard receives an equal treatment at McLaren. The FIA wants to make sure the championship fight in Brazil will be fought fair and square.

Lewis Hamilton can become the youngest driver ever to win the Formula 1 championship and he would be the first rookie driver to win the F1 championship. Hamilton's team-mate Alonso is currently four points down on Hamilton

Carlos Gracia, head of the Spanish Motorsport Federation told Spanish newspaper AS: "I pointed out my concern over the situation at McLaren to (FIA President) Max Mosley. The situation Alonso is going through is no secret. The FIA will have one official that is going to keep a close eye on the McLaren team that nothing bad will happen to Alonso."
