Mallya plans to increase resources in engineering

Mallya plans to increase resources in engineering

11 October 2007

Kingfisher's CEO Dr Vijay Mallya and Michiel Mol are the new owners of the Spyker Formula 1 team. The two business men hope to bring the team another step forward in the Formula 1 field. Indian businessman Vijay Mallya has said the team's first priority will be to invest in research and development to improve the car.

Just over a year the Midland Formula 1 team was sold to Dutch car manufacturer Spyker Cars. The Dutch company was the proud owner of the countries own team in Formula 1. But now, 13 months later their dream comes to an end. The team struggled to survive and was sold to the Mol family and Vijay Mallya.

The Indian has a clear view of what will need to be improved at the Silverstone based team. He told F1.com: "There has been little invested in R&D, so I want to change that. I want to increase the resources in engineering. This team has a great pedigree - so why shouldn't it be possible to restore the past glory.

"I am aware that buying was the easiest part. It's like adopting a child. When you have finally concluded the legal procedures you feel happy, but then the big work comes with the upbringing. I am one hundred percent committed to playing my part."
