Fisichella hopes to clear up future soon

Fisichella hopes to clear up future soon

16 October 2007

Giancarlo Fisichella's future in Formula One is still not confirmed. The Italian hopes he can stay with the Renault Formula 1 team for a fourth season in a row, but the team has yet to confirm both of its drivers for next season. Fisichella hopes the team will soon make a decision though as he is not ready to retire just yet.

Giancarlo Fisichella has scored only 21 points this season, while last year he managed to score 72 points. It was probably the maximum he could do as the team's car was not as competitive as it was last season when Fernando Alonso won the title with the team. Fisichella's future at Renault has yet to be confirmed. Fisichella explained his situation with the team to F1.com: "I am on stand by, as requested from Renault. I would be very happy to stay. I have done a good job - the best given the circumstances!"

And thus he has to wait and see what happens. When asked about his expectations when to expect a decision from the team he answered: "Soon I hope. I would like to be able to start getting excited about testing the new car with no electronics. It will be a new challenge! I have a strong feeling I have to finish the job…"

It is clear Fisichella wants to continue his racing career. A retirement never crossed his mind. "No way! I am as physically fit as a young boy - and I have the experience," he said.
