Singapore contracts lighting firm

Singapore contracts lighting firm

17 October 2007

The organisers of the 2008 Singapore Grand Prix have signed a deal with the Italian company Valerio Maioli S.p.a. to illuminate what could be the very first Formula One race to be held at night. The plans were revealed at a press conference in Singapore.

The 5,067-kilometre track will get 1,500 light projectors, placed four metres apart and 10 metres above the track. The projectors will produce a light level of 3,000 lux, the equivalent of lighting up four football stadiums.

Twelve twin-powered generators will be placed to produce the estimated three megawatts of power required to work the lighting system as well as the track's PA system and monitoring equipment.

Valerio Maioli said at the press conference the set-up was successfully tested at Paul Ricard in July and September.
