Damon Hill: Lewis has amazed everyone
19 October 2007Lewis Hamilton is close to winning the Formula 1 championship. The young Briton that started the season as a rookie was a regular visitor to the podium. But not many would expect to see him lead the championship at the final round of the 2007 Formula 1 season. Country fellow Damon Hill, Britain's last crowned F1 champion, is proud to pass the baton on he said.
McLaren driver Lewis Hamilton could become Britain's latest Formula 1 champion and Britain's last champion, Damon Hill, can't wait to see it happen. He told The Telegraph: "I would be proud to pass the baton on. Lewis has shown the same flash of brilliance as Senna and Schumacher. I'm trying to take my prejudiced British spectacles off here but whichever way you cut it, Lewis has amazed everyone.
"Normally you see someone come in, find confidence and build steadily but he has come in - bang - straight in at the top and kept it up. Here he is at the last race still leading the championship. You can't get away from the fact that there is something intrinsic in Lewis that makes him special."
