Alonso better off at Renault - Briatore

Renault team boss Flavio Briatore says Fernando Alonso would have been a lot better off had he stayed at his outfit last season and not gone to rival McLaren. The Italian added that Alonso would not have endured anything like the kind of tension and politics he found during his time at McLaren.

"That wouldn't have happened with us because we work in complete transparency," Briatore told Autosprint magazine. "When Patrese or Letho complained that their car was slower than Michael Schumacher's I'd tell the team to give them Schumacher's car and put them on track."

An announcement on Alonso's future is expected in the next week, according to rumours in the Spanish press.
