
According to British newspaper The Telegraph Ferrari's former technical director Ross Brawn will join the Honda Formula 1 team in 2008. The agreement between Brawn and the Japanese team would be announced later today.
After ten seasons at the Ferrari Formula 1 team Ross Brawn decided to take a sabbatical year. In his sabbatical year Honda F1 CEO Nicky Fry approached him in April according to the Telegraph. Brawn though was unable to respond out of respect of the Ferrari team.
In the summer period Brawn and Ferrari were close to sign for the Britons comeback in Maranello but the negotiations broke down in October. Not much later Brawn and Fry travelled to Tokyo for meetings with the Honda management and a deal was signed off last week.
The Honda Formula 1 team had a dramatic Formula 1 season. The team will have to do something to make its way back to the top in Formula 1. A new technical director such as Ross Brawn could help the team move forward again.
Ross Brawn entered Formula 1 in 1976 with the Williams F1 team. He joined the team at the R&D department. After eight years Brawn moved to the Force Formula 1 team to become the team's Chief Aerodynamicist. In 1987 Brawn joined the Arrows team as Chief Designer.
In 1991 the Benetton F1 team signed Brawn. He was the team's technical director until he moved to Ferrari in 1996.
