Montagny ready for the next step
16 November 2007Toyota's test driver Franck Montagny has completed his final day of testing for the team on Thursday. After a full season of testing with Toyota he is looking for a new challenge. The Frenchman hopes he can race with a different team next season but realises his options are limited with the current racing seats available in Formula 1.

Looking back at his year of testing in Formula 1 with Toyota Montagny told GPUpdate.net: "It was quite a difficult year, morally. I went to all the test sessions and all the races. Whenever the car was driving, I was there, but mostly to watch, not to drive. When I first got into the car here (in Barcelona), I haven't driven the car in two or three months. It takes a little while to settle in the car again.
As Ralf Schumacher left Toyota one there was one spot available and obviously Montagny would be interested to move up the ladder from test driver to the team's race driver. There were options the team told him but in the end Montagy could start searching for a new job. "There were a lot of rumours, but it's a big team with lots of nationalities, so taking a decision takes ages. The whole year the team told me I could go racing. All the engineers told me to get ready, because I would jump in the car. But I'm still a testdriver…" he said. "It shouldn't be frustrating when you are driving a Formula 1 car, but you always want more. You want to be in F1, you're very happy with a testing seat, but then you want to race, then you want to win, then you want to be world champion. It's human nature."
