Stepney still waiting for powder test results
24 November 2007Former Ferrari employee Nigel Stepney is still waiting for the results on poweder found in Kimi Raikkonen's fuel tank ahead of the Monaco Grand Prix, which he is alleged to have planted. Reports in the Italian media this week have claimed that analysis of the powder matched some powder residue that was found on a pair of Stepney's trousers at his apartment.
However, Stepney's lawyers have dismissed the rumours, claiming it is impossible to draw such a conclusion given that the official tests on the powder found in the Ferrari fuel tank have not yet been completed.
"Given that we question the way the incriminating powder was collected, we also learn with much astonishment about the speculation concerning the analysis of the substance found in Nigel Stepney's trousers," Stepney's lawyer told the Gazzetta dello Sport. "In fact the analysis has not yet been carried out by the appointed experts who should do between 5 and 10 December."
"So at the moment there is no evidence of any responsibility on my client's part," the lawyer concluded.
