Monteiro to continue racing in WTCC

10 December 2007

Ex-Formula 1 driver Tiago Monteiro has decided he will continue to race for another season in the FIA World Touring Car Championship (WTCC). The former Jordan/Midland driver extended his contract with the Seat team.

Tiago Monteiro completed two seasons in Formula 1. In his debut season at Jordan Monteiro scored a podium position in the 2005 US Grand Prix and scored a point in the Belgian Grand Prix.

At the end of the 2006 season Monteiro decided to move to another racing serie as he was unable to get the contract he would have hoped for in Formula One. In his first WTCC season the fans saw him climb the podium there times.

Speaking about his new deal at Seat he commented: "I am proud and happy that SEAT has placed its confidence in me and that it is letting me take part in its ambitious WTCC project. As an auto-racing professional, it is important to constantly place yourself at the highest level and that's the case with a factory team like SEAT, which has the structure and competitiveness needed to succeed. I have made some new friends at SEAT, and I learned a lot about the WTCC which is one of the highest-level international championships. There aren't many! I am sure that the experience gained in 2007 will help me in my second year in this category and I will do everything to battle for the very leading places next year."
