Fernando Alonso says he is not too sad about his time at McLaren, suggesting his year with the team was not as bad as it seemed. Alonso came up against McLaren management and team mate Lewis Hamilton throughout the season until he eventually left the team this winter.
"Too much was written about those things," Alonso told Spanish radio station Cadena Ser. "I was suffering probably only a tenth of everything that had been written."
"All in all up until 20 laps from the end of the season I had a realistic chance of winning the title for the third time and I left with a good feeling because of that," he added.
"Right now it's crazy to think I can win the title with Renault," he added. "I'm not thinking about the championship right now, I'm only thinking about improving the car. We'd need to take an enormous step forward to be able to fight for the world championship next year."
