Verstappen joins Le Mans Series

27 December 2007

Former Formula 1 driver Jos Verstappen will soon be back in action. The Dutchman announced on Thursday morning he signed a contract with a Le Mans Series team. Verstappen hopes his team will get invited for the 24 hours of Le Mans.

Jos Verstappen was an active Formula 1 driver for eight years. He started his career at the championship winning team of Benetton alongside Michael Schumacher. His career finished as a Minardi pilot. In 2008 Verstappen will be back in action for 'Van Merksteijn Motorsport'. "I am really looking forward to race again, especially the 24 hours of Le Mans," Verstappen said. "There is a lot to learn for me as I have never done endurance racing before but we've got a fantastic team and car."

Verstappen isn't the first former F1 driver that will join the LMES. In 2007 drivers such as Pedro Lamy, Stefan Johansson and Jean-Christophe Boullion were active drivers. Next season Verstappen will be joined by Olivier Panis.
