Montagny says goodbye to Formula 1

The 2007 season was the last season for Franck Montagny in Formula 1. The Frenchman was Toyota's F1 test and reserve driver in 2007 and completed a number of races for Super Aguri in 2006. He now aims for a seat in the Champ Car World Series.

"There were some opportunities to stay in Formula 1, but I turned them down," Montagny told MRC. "I don't want to be a third driver anymore. There are some rule changes and a third driver will hardly get the chance to cover the miles on track."

Montagny doesn't expect he will be invited by Force India to race for the team and thus he now aims for a different series. "Perhaps I can race in Champ Cars next year. There are several options for me there but there is also an option to join a French team in an endurance series."
