Paffett still hopeful of Prodrive chance

Paffett still hopeful of Prodrive chance

09 January 2008

McLaren test driver Gary Paffett is still hopeful of making his F1 race debut with the Prodrive team, despite the fact that the new outfit's plans to enter the sport this season fell apart when Williams challenged the legality of the team running with a customer car.

Prodrive is still looking at F1, now for 2009, although things have gotten much quieter and FIA president Max Mosley has stopped short of guaranteeing them a slot on the grid, even if they do get things together.

Paffett, however remains hopeful. "I have still got the links with McLaren and Prodrive and as long as they can get the customer car situation sorted out, and the link with McLaren is still there and viable, then there's a very good chance again," Paffett told Autosport. "That's what we've got to look for."

"But at the moment there is no confirmation of an entry, so I have to concentrate on what we are doing now, and do the best for the team in getting the new car ready," he added.
