Last season's spy scandal will not impact negatively on McLaren's form in 2008, chief executive Martin Whitmarsh insists. The comments come after McLaren agreed to stop three areas of development on the 2008 car to ensure it remains clear of any questions lingering since the spy scandal was put to bed.
"We volunteered those three areas because we didn't want there to be any ambiguity or question during the course of 2008 that any of our programme had been influenced by the events of last year," Whitmarsh said.
"We're happy that there's no influence in the development of last year's or this year's car," he added. "But we accept that it would be useful for us and for the sport to live without any of these questions again."
"We volunteered those three areas and don't believe that we'll be disadvantaged by that," he concluded.
