Fisichella doesn't expect Renault to win races

25 January 2008

Former Renault driver Giancarlo Fisichella does not expect that his former team will win any races in 2008 even though the team will see Fernando Alonso return. The Italian believes even Alonso can not change the situation at Renault to win races with the team this season.

In 2007 Giancarlo Fisichella faced a difficult season at Renault. While the Italian was capable of winning races in the two years before he had to fight for top ten positions in 2007. "It was such a difficult and frustrating season," Fisichella told Autosport. "At the start of last year, I was confident we would be able to fight for the championship - but the car just wasn't as quick as it was in 2005 and 2006.

"Even with Fernando going back there - now Fernando is a great driver, it's what he does best, but he still needs a good car, and I don't know if Renault is ready to win again yet. I'm a little pessimistic about their chances."
